  • Integrin heterodimer of MW 165, 95kD which comprises the receptor (CR3 am chain, CD11b/ CD18) for the complement component C3i. The CR3 receptor is expressed as a surface molecule by circulating monocytes and granulocytes and also by dendritic reticulum cells in sections of lympoid tissue. Expression is increased on activated granulocytes. Major reactivity the monoclonal antibody is directed against the CD11b- antigen (MO-1) located on the alpha-M chain of LFA-1 complex (Lymphocyte Function-associated Antigen-1), which is expressed on monocytes, granulocytes and NK-cells.

  • This gene encodes the integrin alpha M chain. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. This I-domain containing alpha integrin combines with the beta 2 chain (ITGB2) to form a leukocyte-specific integrin referred to as macrophage receptor 1 ('Mac-1'), or inactivated-C3b (iC3b) receptor 3 ('CR3'). The alpha M beta 2 integrin is important in the adherence of neutrophils and monocytes to stimulated endothelium, and also in the phagocytosis of complement coated particles.
